Full-Time Welder

Join Our Team as a Welder in Rapid City, SD!

Western Construction is looking for an experienced welder to join our team. This position will assist with repairs of crushers, conveyors, screens, pumps, gearboxes, heavy construction equipment, and other support equipment. This position will require being able to repair and fabricate components essential to the production process.

Responsibilities:

• Weld components with weld equipment as specified by procedures, layout, blueprint, diagrams, work order, and oral instruction.


• Welds range from simple tacks to complex welds, performed in varying positions.


• Work includes set-up, laying out work using fixtures and guides to repair, modify, or fabricate parts and/or equipment products.


• Mechanically inclined and skilled on a wide variety of hand tools and power tools


• Read, understand, and follow job order specifications, blueprints, work instructions, and procedures.


• Performs predictive and preventive maintenance on equipment.


• Fabricates parts using shop equipment.


• Ability to work in an outdoor environment, in elevated areas, and in confined spaces.


• Knowledge of standard mechanical practices, methods, materials, and tools.


• Ability to handle a variety of duties without close supervision.


• Maintain proper shop paperwork.


• Take direction and accomplish duties outlined by your supervisor and ask questions when you do not understand the task.


• Be dependable to your team: You work as a team and progress as a team.

Qualifications:

• Pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and physical.


• A minimum of 1 year experience in industrial maintenance and welding or a recent graduate of a welding program


• Must have a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record that will meet insurability requirements to drive company equipment.


• Wear and maintain personal protective equipment as directed by the supervisor.


• Must have keen troubleshooting skills and a positive, professional attitude, and a strong work ethic.


• Ability to work overtime as required, including some weekends.

Required Tools:

• Must provide own hand tools.

Physical Requirements

• Able to physically lift heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) frequently throughout the work shift with or without assistance.


• Frequent walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.


• Standing/working on feet for extended periods and walking across uneven terrain, climbing up and down ladders and stairways.


• Able to work in extreme weather conditions and elements, including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, etc.


• Frequent exposure to noise, dust, fuel, oil, and other chemicals.


• Able to wear personal protective equipment and any other safety-related equipment.


• Able to work a minimum of 8 hours a day and overtime as required.
