Chief People Officer (Remote)
Mass Insight is seeking an inclusive, strategic, results-focused leader to serve as its founding Chief People Officer (CPO). Reporting to the President/Chief Executive Officer, the CPO will lead Mi's People & Culture priorities. It's an exciting time, having grown our staff by 75% during our fiscal year ended June 30, 2022! Mis CPO will have demonstrated success as an equity advocate and will bring an inclusion-centered approach to all aspects of talent strategy, including talent acquisition, performance development, compensation and rewards, and retention. The CPO will be skilled at setting and holding the Organization accountable to DEI metrics and goals, change management and bringing underrepresented voices to the table. The CPO will serve as an advisor to staff on HR and DEI-related matters and will provide input and guidance on key strategic decisions for the organization. The ideal candidate will have significant experience leading DEI efforts and working with teams to develop new ways of working. Candidates must have exceptional communication skills, strategy, and process improvement experience with demonstrated skills leading discussions with individuals/groups of differing perspectives around sensitive issues and controversial topics.
Within 12 months in the role, a CPO on the Mi team will typically be able to take on the culture and compliance responsibilities listed below which fall under :
DEI Strategy
Work collaboratively with the CEO to support the vision and implementation of DEI practices.
Drive organizational health and culture by ensuring values-aligned decision-making and strategy
Develop and manage org-wide DEI program and capacity building efforts, leveraging our DEI Committee and external contract consulting resources.
Design, facilitate and/or identify DEI trainings for staff development and create practices that ensure a positive experience for all staff
Ensure systems and processes are designed and executed to support DEI initiatives, and to capture and analyze DEI and satisfaction data
Direct the execution of diversity, culture and employee satisfaction surveys, communicating results and implementing strategic change initiatives to drive a high-quality experience for all team members
Stay abreast of the latest research, practices, and innovations of implementing DEI-based strategies in staff retention and development from the field.
Effectively manage partnerships
Human Resources
Oversee and support he Director of Human Resources and HR Coordinator in the delivery of full-scope HR support for Mass Insight including employee relations, compensation structure and leveling, employee engagement and culture development, organizational design, change management, employee communications, and people development
Create/facilitate opportunities for leadership development through equitable/inclusive professional development practices
Support a culture of learning and development by establishing systems that invest in talent
Work closely with managers to advise and coach them on creating, implementing, and driving a talent agenda and strategy for their groups
Supervise and develop the Director of Human Resources and support the Director in HR matters relating to the execution of HR employee lifecycle processes, including goal setting, performance management, talent planning, compliance, and annual compensation programs
Oversee the revisioning and implementation of our performance management program that aligns with our compensation program (Having just completed a Compensation Program engagement with Edgility, performance management revisioning has been identified as a critical next step in enhancing the alignment between our Compensation Philosophy and our related policies and practices. We have targeted the completion of an inclusive revisioning of our performance management program by April 2023
Oversee all recruiting and hiring to meet Mass Insight's diverse human capital needs, ensuring Mi implements effective recruiting strategies to develop a pipeline of equity-centered and high caliber talent across the organization
Set standards for new staff onboarding and professional development resources with related systems of accountability
Ensure alignment between policies and practices and our values and compensation philosophy
Qualifications
7+ years of relevant experience
Bachelors degree
Skilled at leading change with a proven ability to develop a vision, generate buy-in and inspire others to achieve shared goals
Strong knowledge of HR functions and experience in HR strategy development and execution
Excellent communication, collaboration and listening skills, including the ability to communicate with understanding, balance, and empathy, using techniques and messages most appropriate to the situation and person
Deep understanding of the concepts related to diversity, equity, inclusion as well as the contexts and cultures within organizations that impact the implementation and management of effective change efforts
Ability to consult, advise, communicate, and work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and communities across diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Strong analytical skills, with expertise in translating qualitative and quantitative data into action and improvements
Preferred candidates will:
Experience working in a fast-paced and high-growth nonprofit, consulting, and/or entrepreneurial environment
Experience in the education sector
Relevant advanced degree and/or HR Certification
